How we choose what’s worth it
We stock a lot — but we don’t rate everything the same, and we don’t pretend to. Here’s exactly how our recommendations are made, so you know what a Tuppence verdict is actually worth.
Tuppence Tested
Where you see a hands-on verdict, we mean it. Our team buys and tests a core range — our beginner picks and hero products get real hands-on time, so the notes on power, feel and quietness come from experience, not a spec sheet.
For the wider catalogue, we’re honest that our team hasn’t tried every single item. Those verdicts are built from three things instead:
- Materials & specs — what it’s made of, how it’s powered, how it’s sealed, how loud the motor is on paper.
- Brand track record — some makers (LELO, Svakom, We-Vibe and the like) have earned trust; others we watch more carefully.
- What customers tell us — real feedback, weighted more heavily than any marketing blurb.
When our team hasn’t tested something, we won’t dress it up as if we have.
The Tuppence Says verdict
Most products carry a short “Tuppence says” card. It’s deliberately plain-spoken:
Best for — who’ll actually get on with it.
Skip it if — the honest dealbreakers (too loud, too big, not beginner-friendly).
The scores — for motorised toys, a quick read on power, quietness and beginner-friendliness. That’s the Tuppence Score: three things that actually change your decision, not a made-up mark out of ten.
Materials, plainly
Body-safe silicone is the gold standard, but it isn’t the only thing on the shelves — and a mixed catalogue like ours includes PVC, TPE/TPR and latex too. We list the material on every product so you can check before you buy. If you want the detail, our materials and lube guide and care guide cover what matters.
Getting it to you
Plain, unbranded packaging and tracked UK delivery on everything. Free UK delivery once your basket passes £40 — which is where a good lube and a bottle of toy cleaner quietly earn their place in the basket.
